TRUTH
The Sermon on the Mount is not an unattainable goal; it is a statement of what will happen in everyone created in His own image and likeness that willingly submit in subjection to the sovereign Creator of all things. This is that rebirth of the “Spirit” spoken of by the Apostle John (John 3: 16-17). “Except a man be born again he can not see [therefore enter] the Kingdom of God.” When Jesus Christ imputes His nature and human nature is subjected to it all things are possible. Without Jesus it is impossible.
The Sermon on the Mount is a constitution and bylaws for the Christian. It may seem an impossible dream but with the indwelling Holy Spirit it is possible. Whether or not it seems possible to achieve “with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19: 26). “We preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness” (I Corinthians 1:23).
“Jesus speaking to His Apostles said, I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5).
As the Apostle Paul wrote, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). I speak of a man here who in his exceeding zeal set about destroying the newly inaugurated church. When He encountered the risen Christ on the road to Damascus he was turned about in that zeal and was chosen to take the church to the world outside Judea.
He was able through inspiration of the Spirit of God then to write, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). In the Greek the word mystery (musterion) is not a thing hidden but a thing revealed. That makes it all the more strange that the Apostle wrote to the Greeks this was foolishness to them that do not believe; but, to the Christian it is the “hidden” truth of God. (See Ephesians 3: 9 and Colossians 3: 3)
Jesus addressing His disciples when they asked them why he spoke in parables said, “Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand” (Luke 8:10). The Apostle John added this sobering statement “He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them” (John 12:40). “There are none so blind as those who will not see.” (Isaiah 6: 9-10;1 truth is obvious in creation of a creator; but, those who will not seek Him in truth He will blind their eyes to truth).
“I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me” (Proverbs 8:17).
“Human nature when subjected to the divine nature of God can change the world. The divine nature personified as God’s Holy Spirit is that power that moves and sustains all the heavenly bodies in their orbits and contains them as they swirl around in the universe. Jesus Christ is the only One who can fulfill the Sermon on the Mount.”
“He is before all things and by Him all things consist.” (Colossians I: 17)
- Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
