To Err is Human, to Forgive Devine

by Isaiah Roman

There are many people that more or less gravitate through what is finally taking  for granted, by people acquainted with them, to be a Christian life. These people learn the language, pick up the habits of others they observe over the years but never make a commitment to Christ. After a certain amount of time has passed these folks would be ashamed to admit they’ve never made one. They fake it.

It is a false concept to believe God creates humankind with natural qualities which he uses to make them useful to his plan. Thats is an error, perhaps satanic deception, God’s plan is to create a new person, from the inside out, of each convert. He does not even begin until a person desires to offer his “sacrifice” to Him.

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” (Psalm 51:17) At this point the penitent sinner comes to grips with his weakness. “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (II Corinthians 5:17) He is at a point where he knows he can’t save himself and needs help.

A this point a person is ready to receive the necessary equipment of spiritual warfare to serve in God’s army. It is necessary also to “put on the full armor of God“ and learn how to use it.

“Wherefore he said, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.” (Ephesians 4:8) Until a person willingly “by the mercies of God, [presents his body] a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is [his] reasonable service” is he ready to enter “basic training.” (Romans 12:1) It is now and only now that a convert is ready to receive, exercise and not waste the gifts of God. Until now in the sequence of events in Gods time he has been a natural man and has now become a spiritual babe in Christ. It matters not his chronological age; he is a drooling babe in the arms of God.  There will be chronological youngsters in the church older in the things of God than he.

This is the point of brake down for many people. It is difficult for one who considers himself a mature adult to go back to kindergarten. There are many adult members of congregations all over this nation who slide by all their lives on a false front of Christianity. After a time no one questions them. Their spiritual life is more or less taken for granted; It is almost impossible for these people to admit they have been living a lie.

God is merciful and full of grace to the person who has been pretending but will submit in subjection to the Lord and confess the sin. “Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.” (Matthew 12:31) That person has been blaspheming God all those years without knowing it perhaps. God can not excuse sin; but, he can and will forgive.

  1. Ephesians 6: 11- 18
  2. In ancient times men and women put themselves in subjection “swore fealty” to a king. Jesus is prophet priest and king on God’s throne of the house and lineage of David, God’s kingdom; II Samuel 7: 19
