The Second “Great” Commandment

by Isaiah Roman

“And the second is like unto it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22: 39).”  In plain words, the “Golden Rule,” don’t do anything to your neighbor that you would not want him to do to you.  “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”  These parts in the law establish prohibitions covered by vows in marriage and all inter-actions as well as intra-actions between one’s neighbors both Jew and Gentile.

These were reinforced with a requirement to have one rigid measuring system and genuine, authentic measure for time, weight, height, length, dry, liquid and linear requirements.  The measuring instruments were to be clean and free of any foreign matter  to avoid them adhering to that which was being measured.

In these also are contained the basis for personal property rights to which was added a proviso that is was abomination under rigid penalty to remove property boundary marks and mar or usurp the inheritance of others:

Do no kill (commit murder).

Do not commit adultery.

Do not steal.

Do not bear false witness (lie).

Do not covet (lust after to desire) anything that is your neighbor’s.

Why would men of good will anywhere in the world, or in the universe for that matter, object to these logical, common sense and just laws or rules of conduct? Is it at all possible perhaps they are not indeed “men and women of good will and willing rather to gain unfair advantage; perhaps oppress or suppress their neighbors into unwilling submission?”  Government today, by force of law, wants to and is removing all remembrance of the Ten Commandments from public schools, public displays, government buildings and monuments.  WHY?

God says, “If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed;  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8: 31-32).”

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.”

It is not the will of God for men to make forced bonded servants or slaves of their fellow men.   Is this the reason certain of mankind in this present society move to perpetrate this form of government on their neighbors in the cause of “to protect them from themselves for their own good”?

FACE THE TRUTH is this at all even possible?

  1. It is worth reiteration; “Jesus said, I am not come to destroy the law and the prophets,” He fulfilled them.
