The Only Base to Build Salvation
The Christian who bases forgiveness on a principle that God is our Father and He forgives sin because he He loves us is building salvation on the wrong foundation. Scripture is very clear that God is love and that He so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son. The problem is Adam sinned! “The wages of sin is death.”
There was a need to redeem mankind out of the slavery to sin; there is a price to be paid for redemption. Death involves the loss of a life. Payment for a loss of life had to be offered freely by a life “that knew no sin.” “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (II Corinthians 5:21)
Mankind through Adam sold himself into bondage! “…for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage” (II Peter 2:19). The result of Adam’s sin was he sold himself to bondage of sin. Lucifer through pride had already sold himself to bondage through rebellion against God; no one sold him into sin “iniquity was found in him.”(Isaiah 14: 13-14); sin entered paradise (Eden) through Lucifer who through his own will became Satan (adversary).
The story of Abel’s murder by his brother Cain (Genesis 4:
reveals that. Adam passed sin onto Cain. Death was passed on to his children and death “passed upon all men.” Wherefore, as by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin…” (Romans 5:12).
“…death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. “But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life” (Romans 5: 15-18).
Christ willing offering of Himself, one pure, sinless life, for the all the sins of mankind world wide for all time; that was the price required to satisfy the justice of a just God. That is what it cost God to redeem mankind. Jesus came into the world to provide that perfect offering; that is what salvation cost him. The Love of God sent Him; the love of the Son for the Father to be the propitiation for the sin of mankind was a pure blending of love, justice and grace. God sent his own son to justify the unjust. Its called “substitutionary atonement.” Christ died on the cross for our sins!
The Apostle Paul wrote, “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified” (I Corinthians 2:2).
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20)
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24).
