Temple Builders

by Isaiah Roman

“Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams” (I Samuel 15:22).

“I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings” (Hosea 6: 6).

“Go ye and learn what that means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Matthew 9:13).

“If ye had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless” (Matthew 12:7).

“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you” (Hosea 10: 12).

“I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee” (Hosea 11: 9).

“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good” (Numbers 23:19)?

Emphasis in modern Christianity is on doing good; in order to do good it is prerequisite to be good. There is where the emphasis belongs.

Christianity is a relationship. Christians are the “children of God.” In order to be good it is necessary to be born again into the family of God. It may be that there are those who are not proud of their parents. Some parents do not deserve that distinction sad to say; but, with the heavenly Father it is not so. He is creator, provider, justifier, redeemer, savior and preserver.

“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him” (Lamentations 3: 21-24.

“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5).

It is imperative that people see Christians in the right relationship i.e., “one with the Father through His Son.”1 When God’s children are obedient to the word of God it is Him people see that draws them. They are good because they look good, talk good and show respect for their fellow man. It is real, genuine and authentic it is not an act. That is what people are searching for in today’s world. Someone that is dependable that stands for righteousness and truth. There is little of that in the world.
