Santa Claus ain’t God…
It would seem a Santa Claus syndrome permeates the Christian Church. “Have you been good little girls and boys? Then Santa will give you presents!” Everyone knows that’s a hoax! It has caused more harm than good! Think about this and deny it if you are able!
Parents think they are bad because they could not provide a good home and carry guilt. Children in single parent homes and institutions with caregivers instead of parents tend to believe they did something bad or they would live in a home with their parents and if the have been relatively good for a year they would get presents. That is far from reality as well.
The truth is (and all data supports it) a child raised by both parents where there is commitment to each other and the children to provide them a stable home do far better in learning, societal cohabitation practices, and just about any other category in all the surveys reported.
Children the world over live in a society that has created some sort of Santa Claus as a punishment or persuasion (which ever is called for at the moment) for children. The fly in the ointment is children grow up to be adults and pass on the idea with their own unique additions and modifications.
It may not be true today, but in the days of my youth Christmas and church were inseparable companions. The public school and church were the institutions that made Christmas merry for many “underprivileged” youngsters. They derived their ideas of the holiday and its effects on them and their progeny from those institutions. The present ideas of Christmas come from the cinema, television and the institutions that use the holiday as a means of livelihood. God, Christmas and money seem to drive the holiday. The later two drive society because faith in God has been substituted by money for a livelihood.
Living is a mandatory idea isn’t it how can anything deny that? It is right up there with apple pie, motherhood and home sweet home! God has been given up or thrown out as ineffective in a high-tech world that is able to disintegrate the universe with a rogue comet or atom blast. There is a world now that has grown too mature to need God. Atheism is the new religion, humanism it’s doctrine, science it’s theology and schools and university it’s places of worship. Modern science has created virtual worlds (based on fact or not) that show us all of the secrets of the universe; everything we need to know at the push of a button.
The cinema is able to create scenarios at the drop of a hat that do just that daily. Methods of commerce and trade are necessary to be able to purchase the things needed for life. Pure cold hard money and a right to “live my life” at any price are replacing the ideas of where Santa Claus comes from and why we have the holiday to begin with.
It might seem this is being composed by some sort of “Grinch.” On the contrary, it’s just one who was bereft of a home and parents, raised by grandparents that passed on their traditions and values, one who is capable of understanding the standard; an understanding of the real world, its pitfalls and failures as well as it’s joys and triumphs. One who has discovered that “underneath are the everlasting arms” and the unconditional love of an eternal God who is just is the only way to understand the true “spirit of Christmas.”
Indeed there is an excellent understanding of reality and it is not evil nor sordid. Despite men who are God haters such as Richard Dawkins, Carl Sagan, Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harris the only reality in the universe is its Creator. In the event one may wonder, reference is made here to the deity written into the constitution of the United States.
(Talk about hate crimes what category of criminals do these men and those who hold the same values and ideas fall into. From where do they derive their power to govern, impromptu as it were. Strangely enough they stand on a platform of freedom , safety, security and democracy not from their own wisdom or ability to create; but, one prepared for them by a just loving God and call for his destruction.
What would a person be called who wants to kill another’s God and leave him helpless? In the final analysis that is impossible but how about those who don’t know that yet?
Where were these men when a group of dedicated men “hazarded their lives, their fortunes and their possessions to constitute it? Indeed they come along two hundred years after the fact and claim superior wisdom and knowledge. Indeed what have they hazarded at all to entitle them to privilege above all other men? Do some miracles worthy of demonstrating that ability and maybe men will not need to be subjugated by oppressive force or guile to elevate you to that exalted status!)
“We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal; and that they are endowed, by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness…[governments in order to provide these] derive their just powers from the consent of the governed.” It is not by accident that the first of these is life for without that there is no need for freedom or happiness. These just do not exist without life in the first place.
This bit of wisdom that has held this nation together for over two hundred years did not come from Santa Claus or any elite literary geniuses of letter educated in public or private universities or institutions of higher learning. Yet the nation now is to look to these self proclaimed learned geniuses that presume to do away with the eternal divine wisdom behind it.
The church came into being seventeen hundred plus years before the nation to prepare for its constitution to carry on the plan of God that had existed in eternity past. From eternity past it was in the mind of God to create. Where were you Richard Dawkins, Carl Sagan, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris or for that matter Sigmund Freud, Charles Darwin or Julian Huxley when the earth came into being? Did any of you help or counsel the Almighty God?
Time is not eternal, eternity is. The finite mind of man, that can be marked by a clock or calendar date for entry on the planet as well as can the date of his departure, is incapable of grasping transition above time. Yet the Eternal God who is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent is transcendent above time. He sees eternity in a single glance as ever present. Try that one on for size all of those that are self proclaimed evolutionary geniuses!
The mitigating factor to bear witness to the Truth of God is in this present world the Jewish nation and the Church of Christ His only begotten Son. There is a parallel between the fall of the nation Israel and the present decline in the Christian Church. The church rose out of the declining nation Israel and share the same divine text. The Old Covenant of Moses is quoted profusely in the New Covenant of the Messiah as a confirmation of God’s promises to redeem the earth and those who would choose to believe God (As it is reported in the OT of Abraham1) and serve Him.
The church is still God’s instrument to call and through which the Gospel is preached. The emphasis has been reversed; the Christian was to go out and proclaim the Gospel in the highways, byways and the world. Today it gathers them, herds them into the building occupied by the Church and converts them. The pioneer Spirit of the early church, the dark ages, the renaissance, and the “great awakening” no longer exists.
The western world is too “rich and increased with goods2” and God has become a spare tire not the ark (or vehicle) that carries the entirety of the people through their trials and tribulation. In the United States who needs God? Every one (almost) can get a credit card. Credit is so easy to secure; politicians that want to remain in power desire to subjugate the masses through indebtedness they legislate credit; who needs God?
Confess, repent and return3 to the foundations of the Christian faith before it is too late. God is real and He will keep His word with the Christian just as He did with His chosen nation! “Many are called, few are chosen.” “I am not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.” (Matthew 9:13) “I set before you life and death, cursing and blessing; choose blessing and live!” (Deuteronomy 11: 26)
