Overcoming Fear

by Isaiah Roman

I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me. Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted (Hebrews 2: 12-18).

“The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death (I Corinthians 15:26).”

The ultimate fear of humankind is death; therefore God sent His Son Jesus, HIs Messiah (Mediator) to triumph over death in this life and to be a perfect judge of wickedness and iniquity (unrighteousness).

The criminal attempts to free himself from that fear by “tempting fate” and remaining alive. It is also evident he makes every effort to leave no witnesses that they may accuse him before the bar of human justice; that provides a means by which he can avoid incarceration and death at the hands of the authorities. No one wants to die. There are those who think to avoid fear by suicide or tempting fate taking chances time and time again; but they do so in vain. If there were no life after death (the theory of oblivion) death might be even be a welcome visitor. The culpable would be spared the misery of his evil deeds. Oblivion is Satan’s lie!

There is however a law of retribution that is seen in this life that is a harbinger of things to come in the next. For this reason God has written, for the righteous He personally will dry all tears and there shall be no more crying there (Revelations 21: 4). There will be nothing such as darkness, crying, nor natural calamity to mar the bliss of the righteous (Revelation 22: 5; Colossians 1:21). The Son of God is the reconciliation of all things by His willing offering of Himself on the cross for the sins of the world. “ God so loved the world (John 3:16; Romans 5: 21; 8: 32; I Peter 2: 24)!”

There is a better, more perfect way to overcome the fear of death; settle eternal things with God now while there is life and live forever i.e., in this life and the life to come, eternally. Confess that you are a sinner in need of grace; that Jesus is the Christ a Mediator (Messiah) between God and man and repent (turn from unrighteousness to the righteousness of God) the God/man Jesus Christ. How? Say it; I believe God and take Him at His word (Romans 10: 9-10)!

God is love; but, He is also just. “There is no fear in love…perfect love casts out fear: because fear hath torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love (I John 4:18).”

“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides for ever (I Peter 1:23; Matthew 5: 18).”

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes on him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3: 16).”

He that is born again of the Spirit cannot die. Become born again of the Spirit; Mortify [die to] the flesh. The person that willingly dies to his flesh through the Word lives eternally; It is impossible to kill a dead man! The person that accepts Jesus’ offering on the cross for sin is dead to sin, Satan, and the world. He lives spiritually for ever world without end. Those whom God has declared righteous through the death of His son can not be killed, (in the mind of God who sees all things as eternally present) they were and are eternal.
