Know God’s Will and Do It

by Isaiah Roman

“David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the Lord God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord” (I Chronicles 28:20).

There is no magic formula in Christianity. The Bible is true and reliable; it is sufficient for faith and practice. It is only necessary to believe that statement and begin to act on it. This is as simple as any natural act; like eating, walking, running. It all begins with the will. All that is required for this to work is to set your will to accomplish the things set out in scripture and simply act on that will.

There is an old folk tale about a boy who stood outside a bakery with a coin in his pocket. He could smell the aroma coming out of the shop; he knew he was hungry and he had money to make the purchase. He simply stood there, afraid to go in until one day he finally fell from hunger. He feared that if he should enter the shop and ask for bread and the baker might not sell it to him. Then what would he do? That seems so simple, so foolish. But, it was his fear that killed him not the truth!

There is nothing to fear but fear itself and your adversary the devil will keep you fearing that God may not keep his word. God cannot fail in this because he will not. He has set His will to never leave you nor forsake you. He is truth, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good” (Numbers 23:19)? Strangely enough that statement came out of the mouth of a disobedient prophet named Balaam.

If such a man speaking in the name of the Lord can believe it is it possible; why is it that a person desirous of pleasing God cannot?

“What manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knows us not, because it knew him not” (I John 3:1)

“Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32) “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14: 15).
