History, Prophecy and the Prophets
True history is prophecy of God revealed; it is a record of those things God has said before the actual event, put in the mouth of His prophets in a language that might well be called “revelation.” “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (II Peter 1:21).
The words of prophecy were written down for posterity. History taught without a proper understanding of the role that revelation and prophetic holy scripture has played is not true history. It is, to put it bluntly, a lie; it is revisionism!
Today the greater majority of history taught from grammar school level to the highest levels of secondary schools is not true history.
Secularism (socialism might be substituted here) has taken over, leading the world to believe that what has actually happened and what was reported (by eyewitnesses) did not happen. Revisionists are determined to “get the record straight.” This confusion is leading toward chaos.
God has, throughout all history, chosen to speak through certain men about events that were going to happen in the future. He did this so that “collusion of facts by men” could not be genuinely or legitimately charged. The secular must destroy the sacred, and key to this destruction is the tearing down of prophecy. The prophecy of the Bible is unique to all history, all humanity; there is nothing else that compares. There is nothing that declares God’s personal presence more than his choice to reveal his purpose and will to His creation, not after the event, but before.
But, the dim and murky lens of time, and the short length of human life allows an easy excuse to choose to forget, or ignore. Many look back now and wonder if the prophecies were written before the events they describe, or if someone wrote them down afterwards, and merely claimed prescience.
God says, “there is none other [God] I know not any.” “I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever” (Deuteronomy 32:40). God’s claim to omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscience are absolutes; He is all, or nothing. “God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you” (Exodus 3:14). God is, or He is not. There is no middle ground, no acceptable compromise.
The stars speak his name. The creation cries out with the evidences of a creator. All you have to do is look and you will find Him. He has done all this to say, “That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it” (Psalms 109:27). What man or group of men could have imagined any, let alone all, the obvious truths written in Holy Scripture?
“I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them” (Isaiah 42: 8-9).
“Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he reveals his secret unto his servants the prophets. The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy? ” (Amos 3:7).
“Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see. Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD’S servant? Seeing many things, but you observe not; opening the ears, but he hears not.
The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honorable. But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivers; for a spoil, and none says, Restore.
Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come? Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.
Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart” (Isaiah 42: 18-25).
“Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and show us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth. Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no savior. I have declared, and have saved, and I have showed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God. Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it (Isaiah 43: 8-13)?”
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing;1 now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. The beast of the field shall honor me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen. This people have I formed for myself; they shall show forth my praise” (Isaiah 43: 18-21).
“Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them show unto them. Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any (Isaiah 44: 6-8).”
- “The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken” (Deuteronomy 18:15).
“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14).
“Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).
“The Lord hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne” (Psalms 132:11).
These are only a few of the One hundred twenty nine pieces of prophesy of the coming Messiah/Mediator given in scripture. What man or group of men could possibly conspire and arrange or guarantee such a system and bring it to pass?
