He Made the Earth
When the Almighty God says something once his people take it seriously. When he says it twice it becomes an imperative. How important then is this statement by the prophet Jeremiah?
“He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens by his “discretion.**” When he utters his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightnings with rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasures. Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. They are vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish. The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts is his name” (Jeremiah 10: 12-16).
“He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and has stretched out the heaven by his “understanding.**” [these three together constitute Omniscience, i.e., His all seeing, all knowing properties] When he utters his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth: he makes lightnings with rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasures. Every man is brutish [having the characteristics of a savagely violent person or animal] by his knowledge; every founder is confounded [expresses anger or annoyance] by the graven [carved or sculpted] image : for his molten [cast metal] image is falsehood, and there is no breath [life] in them.* They are vanity [empty], the work of errors: in the time of their visitation [when Christ returns to judge the world] they shall perish [be utterly destroyed]. The portion of Jacob is not like them; for he is the former [chosen people; the head] of all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance [fulfillment of Abraham’s covenant]: the LORD [JHVH Jahweh or Jehovah-The Lord God Almighty] of hosts is his name. ” (Jeremiah 51:15-19).
