God’s Covenants

by Isaiah Roman

With God, a covenant is sacrosanct.1 When He makes an everlasting covenant2 He is bound by His own sanctity3 to keep it regardless of whether the person or persons He makes it with does or not. God binds Himself to the covenant or promises He enters into with mankind. Unless or when there be confession and repentance,4 where applicable,5 mankind that brakes a covenant will suffer the loss covered in the agreement to which he has bound himself. The Mediator/Messiah God provided to be a sacrifice for sin is the only means by which mankind may be relieved of that loss and thereby justified in the sight of God.

To those with whom God has covenanted “He has not beheld iniquity in [them], neither hath he seen perverseness in [them]:6 the Lord his God is [within] him, and the shout of a king [Jeshuah Ha’amashia,7 Messiah] is among them” (Numbers 23:21).

“We know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully…the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for man slayers, for whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for men stealers [slavers], for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;8 According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.” (I Timothy 1:8-11).

  1. “sacrosanct; sacred, hallowed, respected, inviolable, inviolate, unimpeachable, invulnerable, untouchable, inalienable; protected, defended, secure, safe.” God seals His covenants with the following oath : “I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever“ (Deuteronomy 32:40).
  2. Theology: an agreement that brings about a relationship of commitment between God and his people. The Jewish faith is based on the biblical covenants made with Abraham, Moses, and David. The Christian faith is based in God’s eternal decree (Psalm 2: 7-9) See also Ark of the Covenant .
  3. “That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:6). “…I know not any. (Isaiah 44: 8).
  4. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (I John 1:9). The indwelling Holy Spirit is witness to true confession and repentance. (See following; “he that searches the hearts [God] knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because he [the Holy Spirit] makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God” (Romans 8:27).
  5. “Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men” (Matthew 12:31).
  6. God sees them through a prism, as it were, i.e., the blood of Jesus Christ and declares them free of sin.
  7. Jeshuah Ha’amashia which is by interpretation from the Hebrew “He who will save His people.”
  8. “Sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under grace” (Romans 6:14).
