Commit These Things to Memory

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2: 5).”
Righteousness, unrighteousness. Positive: leading of the Holy Spirit; negative: temptations of the enemy of God.    Encouragement from God, indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit; discouraging destructive fiery darts of the wicked one.

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be     filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you Matthew 4: 3- 12).

Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Philippians 4:8).

Be therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect (Matthew 5:48).  As many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing you be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you (Philippians 3:15).

Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;  And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled (II Corinthians 10: 3-6).

This was the word of the LORD…saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the LORD of hosts.

The Christian has the Spirit of God living in him.  Jesus imparts the Spirit to each one as he believes and receives Him as Lord and the Son and heir of God, one with the Father.   “I and my Father are one (John 10:30).”  “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent John 17: 3.”

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.      We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; Your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints (Ephesians 6: 10-18).

Jesus has imputed (imparted) to you that same life which was in Him as he went about among men on earth.  By that Spirit He was able to receive the abuse of men, even his brethren the Jews, and have no hatred, jealousy, envy even no manner of untoward or ill feelings toward none.

Abraham Lincoln put it in these words as he worked to restore peace and unity in a divided nation; “With Malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation’s wounds.”   As Christians we might alter this slightly but open the scope world wide as we become the instruments of Christ’s peace to bind up the world’s wounds.

But Jesus answered them, My Father works hitherto, and I work (John 5:17).  “If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not (John 10:37).  I told you, and you believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me (John 10:25).”  I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work (John 9:4).

While Jesus was in His earthly body he did the work of His Father.  When he ascended to His Father; Christian, your body became His body to do the “works” of the Father.  There is no “plan B.”  If you will not do it who will?

To co-opt the words of Mordecai to Esther, If you altogether hold your peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise from another place; but you and your father’s house [i.e., you or your church may be neutralized]: and who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this (Esther 4: 14)?”
