Sin, the Nemesis of Mankind

by Isaiah Roman

Usually sin does not usually come to a person “full blown,” in an instant of time. Though, according to Christian belief, since Adam mankind has inherited a nature prone to sin, actions of sin becomes a part of the person over time, through small steps. How fast this happens depends entirely on the environment in which the child is raised. When a person is born into a family that cultivates virtue, there is a tendency to consider the norm that which is virtuous. This does not make one immune to sin, but the example is to do what is right. With this as a basis, as it was in Eden, sin has to be introduced from outside one’s normal environment.

God is Not a Genie

by Isaiah Roman

Lot’s of people would like to think that all of the sins of their past will slough away like a second skin, leaving them shiny and new… in this world once they get saved. The shiny and new part comes after the judgement, after your sins have been recounted and after they have been deemed forgiven by the God of creation. Everything else, everything before that time, remains.

The Widow’s Reward

by Isaiah Roman

“The word of the LORD came unto him, saying, Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

Landmarks and Boundaries

by Isaiah Roman

“Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; (Acts 17:22-28).”

Kids Too Long

by Isaiah Roman

Back in the 1800’s if you were a woman, and you weren’t married by the time you were 21, you were a old maid. That, for those who don’t know, is a derogatory term. It was typical for girls to be married by the age of sixteen, and having children right away. Today we find this foreign, perhaps even reprehensible. Children at sixteen? Yet, what we must always remember is life was different back then. That’s not a trite statement.

Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire

by Isaiah Roman

If you walk through a room and something doesn’t smell right, it’s a good sign that there’s something not right. There are a lot of sayings that describe this circumstance. Yet, what do you do about it? Sometimes the problem seems too big to solve. Sometimes we just don’t want to solve the problem. Left untended, however, one thing will lead to another until eventually things really begin to break.

Staying on Top

by Isaiah Roman

In the realm of politics, Herman Cain is getting attacked because he’s on top. Let’s set aside the issue of whether or not he actually did anything for a moment. Let’s stick with the simple fact that Herman Cain is on the top of the list among the primary candidates, and now that he is, he’s being attacked. As soon as another candidate gets to the top, the press will pound on that person as well. In fact, they did it to Perry. His gaffs on the immigration issue were pushed far and wide. So, why is it? Why does the press jump on these people the second a whiff of indiscretion comes into view? The answer is simple; because they claim principles.

Cause for Fear

by Isaiah Roman

Nothing causes anger more than fear. It’s been described as the “fight or flight” mechanism in the human animal. When confronted with a circumstance that causes fear people tend to run, or lash out. This response is dramatic, or subtle, but it is a part of the human condition. A good, well-trained fighter doesn’t get angry. They keep a calm mind-set despite the adrenaline that will inevitably run through their veins. The thing that makes the difference is experience and confidence.
