A Passing Thought
Which is easiest to believe?
On the Island of Sehel, just below the First Cataract on the Nile River there is a large granite block with an inscription carved into it. Some believe the inscription is a copy of an earlier document and that the inscription was actually carved some time in the Ptolemaic Dynasty. Others believe that it is original to it’s subject; the Pharaoh Djoser.
In the modern debate over God, the existence of God, and the mode or form of the “proper” worship of God we have clouds of such density as to obscure one’s hand from their own eyes. They primary key to all apologetics is not in the strength of the argument, or the skill of the arguer, but rather in the ability of the audience to listen.

“I think the question that Sam Harris has to answer is this: on atheism, why should a person limit their own pursuit of happiness when they can be more happy by being selfish and spurning the ‘fourishing of humans?’ Why should any individual atheist care about the flourishing of humans when self-sacrificial actions to improve the flourishing of others diminishes his own happiness? Why should an atheist sacrifice his own happiness so that other humans can flourish, when his own lifetime is all the time he will ever have for pursuing his own happiness?”

There’s a lot of nonsense floating around today. It seems that humans, when given the opportunity, will do whatever it takes to give an excuse to their behavior. One has to wonder why. Why go through all the trouble to justify evolutionary theory to the histories told in the Bible? It is so remarkable that when you remove the taint of evolutionary thought from real history, much clarity can be achieved. Why go through all the trouble of justifying sin by mitigating the justice of God displayed throughout all history? It is self evident that guilt is a condition of the human spirit, regardless of the depravity of the individual. Those who seek self-destruction seek to eliminate their “pain.” What do you suppose the source of that pain is?
From time to time we all face tragedies. These events can cause us to question the character of God. One of the main arguments against the Faith is called the Beneficent God argument. Although the modern version of this argument is a pale shadow of it’s original, the way it’s interpreted now does bring out some deep seated emotions. Many actually use this premise to harbor hatred against God. In this discussion we talk about the various aspects of the ages old question; “how can a good and loving God allow bad things to happen?”
In the final chapters of the book of Job, God asks him some seventy questions he is not able to answer (Job 42: 1-6). It is not the height of arrogance when all those who ignore, deny or reject God even today are not able to answer even one of these questions posed by the infinite, omniscient God of creation? Yet, mankind in his pride, arrogance and “advanced” education is quick to ask, “who are you that I should reverence you?” “What is your word that I should submit in subjection to it?”
Slowly, but surely, the world timeline is coming together. This massive map of world time according to the Biblical history has been updated to include the kingdoms of the world, and a few key dates in history. This study has been an invaluable lesson for me in the grace of God. If you examine world history in light of the Bible, you begin to see how compact the distance between people really is. There is something important about understanding the life-span of this planet and our existence on it; a different perspective on who knew what, when.
