Be careful what you ask for

by Isaiah Roman

“And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul (Psalm 106 : 15).”

Be careful what you pray for; the Lord may give what you ask; but, it may come in a time and in a way that you think not.  It may not bring the contentment you desired.  The children of God, Israel, sent them manna in the wilderness to suffice their hunger and they were not satisfied.  They demanded meat; He gave them meat (Numbers 11: 31-35).  With it came sickness and death for many.   The Lord is Love and from it grace flows forth; He is full of mercy; but He is just.

The Lord says, “ask and it shall be given;” but, when it seems not to be forthcoming in the abundance desired or in time humanly required and the request turns to a demand, beware, be careful!

The Lord knows what you need “before you ask” (Matthew 6: 8).  He desires to prove Himself strong on your behalf (I Corinthians 1: 4) in order that you may know from whence it comes in order to strengthen your faith and build confidence in Him for the time of severe trial and trials will surely come.  “That you may know He is God” (Deuteronomy 4: 35) and is patient to receive acknowledgement of it.

Do not be slow to give God praise and thanks for every good and perfect gift for every one of those comes down from above “from the father of lights” (James 1: 17).
