Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
We wrestle not against flesh and blood [mankind], but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (satanic, demonic powers; spiritual warfare).
Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with (1)truth, and having on the breastplate of (2) righteousness; And your feet shod with the (3) preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the (4) shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Take the (5) helmet of salvation, and the (6) sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: (7) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and (8)watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the ‘mystery of the gospel’,1 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak2.
- “Mystery of the Gospel;” “ it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes” [The son of God willingly offered up his life to save sinners; “For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God (IICorinthians5:21)]” (Romans 1:16).
- For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming” (I Thessalonians 2:19).
